Scatter and Colts Raid Update

Having finalised the course setting for the Colts Raid and Scatter Raid races, I’m pretty excited about the events we have in store for you.  With 37 check points spread over 7 stages to chase down in just 3 hours, strategy and navigation will play just as big a role as raw speed in this format of racing. Indeed, my advice would be for teams to plan their course wisely […]

Colts Academy Postponement

It’s with disappointment that we have made the decision to postpone the Colts Academy training day originally scheduled for 15 April this year.  Unfortunately, we have not received enough entry numbers to make the event viable.  With a busy calendar of races in the first half of the year, a short lead in time, and a critical calendar clash with an Orienteering QLD training camp the same weekend, we have […]

Updated Rogue Raid Entry Procedures

Given the current feedback on demand for entries to the Rogue Raid, I’ve made the move to implement some changes in how the entry system will work to alleviate the stress of entries for both myself and competitors.  Despite increasing the number of available places in the event, I suspect that demand may still reach the capacity of our event logistics and permits. As such: Pre-entry: Pre-entries will remain open […]

Urban Raid Wrap Up

Now in its fifth year, the Urban Raid (formerly Urban Rogue) set new ground in terms of participation, suggesting a healthy future for the navigational sports. Over 300 competitors and 109 teams toed the start line for another fantastic event. What was very encouraging to see were more than 140 competitors who had never done a Raid event before, along with the 41 students racers competing. With a wet week […]

Rogue Raid Entry Process

In a little over a month, entries will open for the 2018 Rogue Raid.  While every edition of “The Rogue” has sold out, this happens at an ever increasing rate. Despite the race moving to a commercial model for 2018, I suspect demand will remain relatively high.  As such, I’ve increased entry limits by 20%, with a backup option to increase by 40% if full demand requires it (although in […]

Volunteer Reward Scheme

As an event organiser, I’ve always encouraged people to “race first, volunteer second” if they want to support an event. But I’ve always quickly qualified this statement with the fact that I love my volunteers. By organising events through the QLD Rogaine Association, I’ve had the pleasure to meet a collection of the most amazing people willing to give up their time and comfort to be part of an event […]
