Having finalised the course setting for the Colts Raid and Scatter Raid races, I’m pretty excited about the events we have in store for you. With 37 check points spread over 7 stages to chase down in just 3 hours, strategy and navigation will play just as big a role as raw speed in this format of racing. Indeed, my advice would be for teams to plan their course wisely – it has been designed to be very achievable for beginners with a number of options to drop bigger loops, but those loops could make all the difference for teams looking to push the pointy end of proceedings.
A couple of important updates related to the race:
- Early bird entries close in one week on Friday 6 April 2018. Lock in your entry now to avoid the price rise.
- Every competitor will receive a single A4 waterproof colour map printed at a 1:20,000 scale with 5m contour interval. All 37 check points and disciplines are optional, but the 7 stages must be completed in order.
- We are still after one or two volunteers to help on the day. All volunteers qualify for a $50 credit towards their next rogaine or Raid event entry.
- Timings have now been released for the Scatter Raid. Looking at current entry numbers, volunteer resources and the course logistics, it has been decided to partially overlap the Colts and Scatter Raid events. Both will still run as individual events but the overlap will help build the event vibe particularly for our new Colts racers. The Scatter Raid schedule along with all other relevant information including entries can be found on the event page here.
The scatter format makes for an interesting twist on the traditional rogaine where check point selection is based a different set of criteria: how quickly can I get that CP, not how much it is worth. Looking forward to catching everyone on the start line of the next Raid Adventures race.
